The Portal Manager
How it Started
As the number of Build Your Own Website accounts grew beyond all expectations, a growing number of inquiries starting coming in from school and district administrators who wished to use BYOW to create a school/district Web site. The application was targeted to the classroom, however, and an organizational fit was clunky, at best. Plans were soon developed to build a brand new application that incorporated the "point-and-click simplicity" of BYOW, but which also met the needs of administrators. The result was the "Portal Manager", an application with advanced Web site building tools, but which also incorporated individual classroom BYOW accounts into its fundamental structure. This integration made many new processes possible, including tracking, resource sharing, secure messaging, broadcast publishing, aggregate calendars, and much more. The Portal Manager, like BYOW, was an almost instant success.
