Lesson Eight: Hurray for Nature Discoveries

After the bake sale, the money needs to be sorted and counted. The MathTek kids discover that they have made more than enough to adopt an acre of rainforest. The discussion of how big an acre is leads to demonstrations and investigations of linear measurements, area, and choosing the correct unit with which to measure. Talk of a group field trip to the zoo leads to a discussion about “time” and “distance.” The group begins to discuss plans to go to the zoo to a special rainforest exhibit. Seth suggests that perhaps they should think of another project and ideas begin to fly for the next big undertaking of the MathTek “Nature Discoveries” group!
