Teaching with a SMART Board and Notebook Software
In this hands-on session, teachers will gain new SMART skills for their SMART Board and SMART Notebook Software. With a SMART Board Interactive Whiteboard and Notebook software, teachers have the ability to make lesson plans interactive and motivational while at the same time increasing their own creativity. For example, bring the concept of probability to life with virtual coin flipping and rolling dice or create an interactive timeline, animated poetry, place value charts and more! This session will focus on the use of SMART Boards and SMART Notebook Software in the K-12 classroom, creating lessons aligned to state standards while motivating and engaging students.
Pre-Requisite: Must have the hardware and software needed for SMART Board and SMART Notebook software installed in your classroom. Must be able to turn on both the hardware and software.

Student Response Systems (a.k.a. Clickers)
Go beyond a Class Gameshow! In this hands-on session participants will explore effective uses of Student Response Systems. Learn how the new features of a variety of programs will increase student motivation and help teachers to adapt instruction using real-time data. Google Earth: Basics and Better
Participants will receive an overview of Google Earth, going over the basics of the program before looking at the more advanced features. Make placemarks for attaching information, photographs and hyperlinks. Use GE to save, use and share geographical data and more, as well as how to overlay other aerial photographs and historic maps. Examine the wealth of curriculum applications for Google Earth, from literature to astronomy!

Wikis are websites that can be edited quickly without learning a special language. Taking Your SMART Board to the Next Level
SMART Board tools encourage and engage students, leading to increased achievement and interest. Participants will review basic SMART tools while exploring specific 4th- 8th grade activities. Educators will learn about the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and the Internet combined with SMART Board tools. Participants will discover how to record lessons or student presentations so they can then be saved and shared with others. This session will also explore online resources such as standard-aligned activities, additional free resources and tools that will enable you to bring your most creative classroom ideas to life on your SMART Board.

Pre-Requisite: Must have some SMART Board experience including the ability to use the Styluses (pens) and view the SMART Notebook Gallery. Additional required computer skills: familiar with Microsoft products and the Internet.

Election 2008 Educator Workshop

This workshop will include ready to use Election 2008 Lesson Plans and materials, information on the 2008 Mock Election, an exploration of election related classroom technology and a fun, informative presentation by The Blades editorial cartoonist, Kirk Walters.
